There are a lot of musically-inclined individuals who choose another path when it comes to pursuing a career in music. There are two careers in particular, audio/recording engineer and songwriter, that don’t require you to be in the forefront constantly. Students can still pursue their passion for music even if they are shy or introverted. Here is a little bit of information about both of these careers and how to get started in these rewarding fields.

Sound Engineer

A sound engineer is responsible for creating the sound of music behind the scenes. It is a very important job that requires a very specific type of training. Learning how to become an audio engineer is not as difficult as it sounds. In order to become a sound engineer you will need to go to a college or university to take some course work. Community schools as well as vocational schools offer programs in audio engineering. You can typically get a certificate or your Associate’s degree. Even if you don’t have a degree you can typically obtain an entry-level job in the field especially if you have the passion for it.

Songwriter

Becoming a songwriter does not require a lot of education but it does require a lot of passion and dedication. It is helpful if you study music theory, but it is not required. It takes a lot of skill to be a songwriter and you should have some experience in the field. Songwriter’s typically work on a freelance basis and learn via on-the-job training. There are some certificate programs and Associate’s degrees in music theory as well as music performance. It is beneficial if you study the instrument you are playing as well as some music background end engineering or recording.

Songwriters typically learn their craft by working with other musicians and songwriters. Collaborating with others is the best possible way to hone your craft in terms of songwriting. Education helps but it is not necessary. If you have a passion for it then that is a really great start.

Many colleges and universities have degrees in various types of music performance. In this case you could study vocal performance, instrumental performance, or as an orchestral conductor. Having a degree in music performance will help you along the road of becoming a songwriter.

Conclusion

A career in music is a wonderful choice for individuals who love music and love to learn. It is a career field that is constantly growing and involving. People will always need music in their lives and you have the potential to be one of the ones that gives it to them.
