They’ve been doing this for years!
More than 10 years ago now I saw a vegan potluck advertised. Even though I am vegetarian, I like vegan food and cook it sometimes, so I thought this would be a fun thing to go to and meet some new people.
We figured out very quickly the people attending were not just there for the food and atmosphere! The potluck very quickly broke up into groups. One group was planning a demonstration at a store selling animal pelts, and others were planning other acts of civil disobedience. There were very heated discussions about the way farm animals are treated, and possible activities including setting farm animals free. We found not only did we have anything to say to anyone there, but we weren’t invited next time!
Some people attending these potlucks are pretty hard core!
I prefer to use potlucks for friendly non-political conversation, and save the politics for my garden and blog.
