orlando Food Not Bombs being repressed
quick link of the day…i just read this very well worded statement of outrage from Orlando Food Not Bombs: A Statement from Orlando Food Not Bombs on the Arrests of Our Comrades. It never ceases to amaze me that city governments will harass and attack people who feed the homeless. I guess the assertion that food is a right, not a privilege threatens the government’s opposing position. I think we’ll hear more and more of these types of stories as the Oil Peak-induced skyrocketing of food prices further accentuates the differences in privilege….in fact this is already happening in Mexico where production of corn (the national staple food) is being shifted towards ethanol production for the USA’s cars, and regular people who spend 30% of their income on corn flour aren’t able to cope with the 400% increase in corn prices. riots followed soon thereafter. Since canada and the USA are at the center of empire, it might take a little longer before the food riots start happening, but they’ll come.

Here’s an interesting article on effects the rising demand for corn is having on the environment…
