new blog header pictures :)

i had some fun yesterday and today by making a bunch of new headers for the blog. i like the idea of having a random header at the top, but i couldn’t quite figure out how to keep a theme with it before…but now i made the little gear thing on the side there, so i can add that to each.

for all of you out there who want to make your own wordpress header image, it’s not that hard if you have some basic photo editing skills. just edit an existing header image, cut out the white border area, and throw away the rest. then you find an image and crop a 740×195 portion out of it (a 3.8:1 ratio) and add that as a new layer underneath your white border. once it’s positioned right, just export it to a jpg (you’ll have to flatten it, but it’ll ask you to do that in the export). boom, done.

the ones i’ve made above were just the result of going through various photos and picking out a long skinny section that might be interesting, and then adding the border and logo thinger. it was fun bringing new life to the old photos, since some of them look much different as the original 3:2 ratio. cropping out a 4:1 section can make things look quite different.

plus, while i was working on this, a neat woodpecker decided to fly into the backyard, so i whipped out the telephoto lens and added another new image :)
