halloween critical mass
just got back from the halloween critical mass, here in vancouver. it was a little rainy, but i always enjoy CM. I’ve made a lot of good friends there, and the general atmosphere is very friendly. just a great place to meet interesting people.
I went in my Ming the Merciless costume, and actually had a number of people recognize it. it was sprinkling the whole time, but the costume lasted for quite a while in the wet weather. It had 2 coats of varathane on it, and then the enamel paint, and it stayed waterproof for maybe 1.5 hours….but after a while i noticed that the water was no longer beading on parts of it. a while later, there were some parts that were distinctly soggy. oh well…i’ll fix it up tomorrow before the OCB halloween party.
after the ride, we went over to Foundation for some vegan eats and some beer, but they had a huge lineup and the waitress we talked to was pretty rude, so we decided to head over to a friend’s place and cook up some curry. Melissa cooked up a wonderful curry in almost no time at all, and we all got to dry off and enjoy some hot food.
after dinner, everyone else started preparing their more elaborate costumes for a party they were going to. Seen here is Jen in her aunt’s very vibrant outfit from the 60s that was recovered from a box in an attic somewhere, and she’s doing some makeup for Jack (whom you may remember from such films as “Pete and Jack sleep in an orchard on the way to kelowna” ;)
i decided to make my way home, but i’m sure they’re out havin good times right this minute. as for me, i’m gonna get some sleep and think about how to fix up my rain-damaged costume before tomorrow’s party.
