slept in..
so i slept in this morning, and didn’t ride my bike. i gotta get my motivation back up. Next week i’m gonna ride every day, rain or shine. I’ll need to make sure i’ve got food for lunch, and clothes prepared the night before. The rain won’t really bother me, since i’ve got some good polyester cycling pants that are sorta like a wetsuit ;)
The big Critical Mass is next week too. Friday the 24th will be the biggest vancouver Critical Mass of the year. over 1000 people are expected, and i’ve been trying to get several friends to come out. it’s a phenomenal feeling when there are so many cyclists on the road that you can go around a whole block and meet up with the back end, and the front can finish crossing a bridge before the back has started.
People will start gathering for the ride at 5:30pm at the art gallery downtown. the ride usually leaves after 6pm, so plenty of people come late but i like to get there as early as i can, just for the social time. i’m gonna have to get to work extra early that day so i can leave by 4pm. i figure it’ll take me about 1.5 hours to ride the 30km from surrey to downtown.
so, now that i’ve got my official goal of riding every day next week, i can’t back down without getting shit about it ;). it should be a good week next week, for my fitness and for my mood (since exercise always makes me feel better). 50km per day for the whole week means it’s going to be a 250km week, which should be great for my ad-hoc training schedule. Just thinking about harsfa and her triathlon training gives me some motivation to at least do some bike riding. (ugh, i hate running, so i don’t think i’d ever do a triathlon…cycle to calgary, yes….triathlon, no). If i can get in touch with my friend jack soon, i’d like to try another ride up mt. seymour. It’ll be interesting to see if i’ve improved since the last time, which i think i have. i should leave that until after i accomplish something next week, though. one step at a time.
oh, and before i forget, come on out to the commercial drive festival on sunday (between noon and 6pm). the street is blocked off between 1st and venables for a big street party. i’ll be on my unicycle :).
