day off tomorrow

on a moist walk to work

I’m excited about tomorrow…Since I’ve finished a big project at work that’s been hanging over my head like a black cloud, i decided to take friday off to relax a bit. Well, maybe not “relax”, per se, but do whatever i like. I’m planning on riding my bike out to the airport to see my parents off (they’re goin out of town for a week), and then i’m doing various errands that need doing. But i’ll be really happy to get a half-decent bike ride in, because i couldn’t really do it in the cold and the snow. rain’s not too bad. Tomorrow evening i’m going to a place called “The Butchershop”, on main & 26th, to check out an event called “57 varieties”. Poetry, music, etc. 10pm. sounds like a blast…i’ll let you know how it goes.

as for today, i’m trying to search around a bit for some pics from the imperial inauguration. I’ve heard bits and pieces about various protest actions happening, but haven’t really spent a lot of time reading about any in particular. the front page of DC IndyMedia had some info about various marches and actions, including several thousand in an “anarchist” march. sounds encouraging. i wish we had a few thousand anarchists marching around vancouver…something might actually get done. ;)

speaking of doing something real, i’m trying to think up a plan for a coming event by a group called “get your vote on”. The whole aim of the group is to get young people to vote…for whom, they don’t care. I’m totally frustrated that they’d spend so much time just trying to get kids to vote instead of actually presenting some real possibilities for action. So i think i’ll whip up some pamphlets or something, and go try to recruit…or at least explain to them that voting for someone to make the same bad decisions isn’t gonna change anything and they should find some kind of group to get involved with. For those who still love “representative democracy”, i suggest this recent article on resist.ca.

back to work for me. i hope everyone’s havin a good day out there, eating healthy food, and enjoying the company of friends.

Ride hard, ride free

“sounds like a blast…i’ll let you know how it goes.” — greetings from one of its organizers. Hope you enjoyed it! Stop by again this month (February 18th) — and the third Friday of every month!
