i friend just sent me this link to some photos of protests against APEC in Chile. there are over a hundred pics there, but i’ve put two examples below. APEC is one of the economic institutions that grease the gears of imperialism.

By facilitating so-called “Free-Trade”, it helps rich countries (which just so happen to be the northern, mostly white countries) hold their economic advantages over poor countries (the mainly southern ones, made up predominantly of people of colour). Keeping the poor countries in debt relationships makes them pliant to the economic whims of the global rulers in the north. “Free Trade” is like an arm wrestling competition where anyone you have to defeat Arnold Schwartzenegger otherwise you don’t eat for the next month. There’s no “level playing field”…it’s a system of imperialism. there’s a power imbalance prevailing here.

The people in these pictures know how things work. they see the power imbalance inherent in the current global order. they also see the connection between military aggression (combined with free-market fundamentalism) in Iraq and the free-market fundamentalism (combined with covert military aggression) in south america. Behind the invisible hand of the market is the fist of the military.
