yay, moving!
so the big move happened yesterday (and technically part of today). took 2 loads in the moving van, plus i bit extra, and we still have no internet or phone service, but we’re really really fuckin happy to be moved to the new place.
First snag was that the U-Haul people wouldn’t give us a van until 3:30pm on sunday, so we didn’t actually get to put anything in the van until after 4pm. we took a load over to the new place, then unloaded quickly onto the lawn and left 2 people there to move things into the house while the next load got loaded at the old house. When we brought the second load over, it was pretty late so we had dinner before unloading it into the house. By the time we were all done and i took the van back, it was 3am. after returning home and finding the box with my blankets and pillows, i got in a pretty decent 4 hours of sleep.
I’m glad it’s over, though. the new place is awesome. the rooms are arranged a lot better, so we can talk to people in the living room while we’re in the kitchen. At the old place, the rooms were seperated a lot more, so we ended up hangin out in the dining room all the time. It’s physically a bit smaller, but it just feels a lot better. it’ll be fantastic once we get all the boxes unpacked and can actually walk through the living room without tripping.
Second snag was with the phone. I called telus today to switch the phone service to the new house. This normally involves some clickety-click noises on their end as they type, and it’s instantly done. Unfortunately, the former residents of our new place had a different local phone service provider, so Telus will probably have to send a tech out to monkey with wires ‘n’ boxes ‘n’ shit. Supposedly, the earliest possible date for this is October fucking 13th. The other part of this is that if i want to get our number forwarded to voicemail during the downtime, it’ll cost a $45 connection fee to set that up, and then another $45 connection fee to make it work normally on october 13th. bastards. I think it’s time to set up some VOIP stuff and make calls over the internet ;)
I’ll try and post some pictures once i find my camera and battery charger. prolly havin a housewarming on october 9th, but it’s still not confirmed. stay tuned.
Update (4:38pm, sept 27th): After asking telus reps if i can keep my old number if i switch to sprint, and outright threatening to switch to sprint right away, it seems that Telus found it within the realm of possibility to send out a tech on the 29th. And there was much rejoicing. (yaaaaay)
