good news about the house (for once)

well, it seems that on this dreary, rainy monday, a spot of sunlight is starting to shine my roommates and I. Despite having a sorta so-so result in last thursday’s housing tribunal, we’ve just received an offer from the landlord.

a quick update on the situation: at the housing tribunal they ruled that we’ve never had any valid notice, but at the same time they weren’t willing to rule on our status as tenants. they believed the landlord’s idiotic suggestion that we forged some signatures on our application for arbitration, so the judge refused to listen to joey’s arguments, and hence wouldn’t rule in our favour. Had she done so, we would have been able to stay until December 1st. but we also don’t have to move out right now, so that’s good.

So, fastforwarding to the present, it seems that the landlord was unimpressed at his lack of a decisive victory. I guess because he’s gotta go write up a new eviction notice and maybe wait several months and fight another tribunal, he’s decided to make us a pretty sweet offer. If we move out by October 1st, then we don’t have to pay September rent, and he’ll give us additional cash (which we could all use).

So, now we just have to look for a house like madpeople. if we can’t find a place for all 3 of us, i guess we’ll have to split up or something, but it’ll be worth it if we get several months of free rent out of the deal.

i can just feel the stress lifting. it seems like this crap was never going to end, but now the end is in sight. Just gotta find a place to move to, and do it, and also help Joey prepare for his CD release party on October 3rd. that’ll be a little bit hairy trying to set that all up and move at the same time, but free money is great to have when you’re trying to pay off a student loan. Now we really have to have a victory party ;)

well, back to work for now…

Ride hard, ride free

congrats !!! on a partial victory at least — going to a tribunal is really stressful, glad it turned out to be worth it for you — good luck on the house hunt I’m sure lots of people will keep their eyes open to.
